In November 2015, based on their right to self-derermination, the 65 native communities of the Wampis nation decided to form their own autonomous territorial government. With this government they are seeking to regain control over the more than one million hectares of territory they have occupied, and continue to occupy, since time immemorial in order to ensure its conservation. Through spirituality and their own government, Tarijmat Pujut (Good Living) will thus be guaranteed, along with the preservation of their cultural identity.
