Tebtebba and CERDA conducted Asia Pacific Regional workshop: Indigenous peoples and gender responsive emissions reduction program on February 24th – 27th ,2017 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The workshop objectives were
- Provide an overview of the UNDRIP, the UNFCC and REDD+ initiatives and how these intersects with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which is global in implementation and in the context of empowering women;
- Defining gaps and challenges in indigenous women’s engagements in national and local REDD+ /climate change and development initiatives;
- Unite on a common engagement platform for indigenous women in REDD+ countries in the Asia-Pacific region to feed into the Capacity Building on REDD+ for Forest Dependent Indigenous Peoples in East Asia, Pacific and South Asia Regions Project and other advocacy spaces;
- Provide a venue for project partners’ inception meeting;
Participants come from targeted IPO partners working on forests/climate change and indigenous peoples/ women’s issues from the Asia – Pacific region. During the workshop, we discussed for the Themes for AIWN (Asia Indigenous Women Network) – 2017, defining challenges and gaps towards a gender and indigenous peoples-responsive REDD+ and emissions reduction program, and strategies for engagement at the national and local levels.
